Abdominal Pain / Nausea Vomiting and Indigestion
1. Describe two characteristics of peritoneal inflammation.
1. Pain is steady and aching in character and is located directly over inflamed area. Pain is invariably accentuated by pressure or changes in tension of the peritoneum.
2. Tonic reflex spasm of the abdominal musculature, localized to the involved body segment. The intensity is dependent on the location of the inflammatory process, rate at which it develops, and integrity of the nervous system.
