Headache, Including Migraine and Cluster Headache




1. Name 4 diagnoses that should be considered in the patient who presents with acute new-onset, sudden headache. List 2 symptoms for each to support each diagnosis.





1. Meningitis – acute, severe headache w/ stiff neck and fever; pain with eye movement
2. Intracranial hemorrhage (Subarachnoid, epidural or subdural hematoma) - acute, severe headache w/ stiff neck and w/o fever
3. Glaucoma – prostrating headache w/ nausea / vomiting; started with severe eye pain
4. Purulent Sinusitis – Fever or unexplained systemic signs, induced by bending, lifting, coughing
