Independent Addiction Medicine opinion

Dr Eric Hadinata provides independent expert opinion in Addiction Medicine. Instructing organisations may email a brief, non-confidential suitability enquiry about a proposed engagement; bookings, instructions, documents and current matters are managed through MEDirect.

Strictly independent: a fee cannot purchase a favourable or predetermined outcome. Dr Hadinata accepts an instruction only where he has no current or previous treating relationship with the person to be assessed and no other conflict of interest.

Non-negotiable professional standard

Independent means independent.

A private fee pays for specialist time, expertise and careful analysis. It does not purchase a favourable report, preferred wording, a licence recommendation or any other predetermined clinical or legal outcome.

Dr Hadinata will not alter an opinion to meet a preferred result. If an instruction depends on a guaranteed or predetermined conclusion, please engage another service.

Disagreement with an opinion never justifies abusive, threatening or coercive communication towards Dr Hadinata or practice staff. Staff cannot negotiate or influence an independent opinion, and such conduct will not be accepted.

Clinical treatment and independent medicolegal work are different engagements. Dr Hadinata's role, the questions to be addressed and the intended use of the opinion must be clear before instructions are accepted.

Treating role

A treating clinician assesses and manages care within a clinical relationship. Clinical referrals use the separate referral pathway.

Independent role

Dr Hadinata is engaged to provide an independent expert opinion on defined questions for the instructing organisation. This does not create a treatment relationship.

Strict independence threshold

Dr Hadinata accepts an independent expert instruction only where he has no current or previous treating relationship with the person to be assessed and no other conflict of interest.

Law firms, insurers and other instructing organisations may use the preliminary email only for a brief, non-confidential suitability enquiry about a proposed engagement of Dr Hadinata as an independent medical expert in Addiction Medicine.

This is not a general legal or insurance enquiry address. Do not use it to request treating reports, certificates, forms, access to patient records, informal advice or a report outside an agreed independent expert engagement. It is also not for patients, members of the public, clinical referrals or general clinical and administrative requests.

Do not send instructions, party names, briefs, health records, reports or any confidential matter information by email. An engagement begins only after suitability, conflicts, scope, terms and fees are agreed. MEDirect handles all accepted or current matters, including bookings, conflict information, instructions, case administration and document submission, using its specialised medicolegal IT services and risk-management processes.

Messages outside this preliminary-enquiry scope are automatically removed before human review.

Booking and instruction pathway

  1. Send a preliminary suitability enquiry

Use this pathway only for a proposed engagement and only if Dr Hadinata has no current or previous treating relationship with the person to be assessed. Keep the enquiry brief and non-confidential. Do not identify the person to be assessed or send instructions, a brief, clinical records or other matter information. MEDirect handles all accepted or current matters. Messages outside this scope are automatically removed before human review.

For an eligible preliminary enquiry, email medicolegal@dreric.net with the instructing organisation, required expert role, jurisdiction and relevant timing.

  2. Book through MEDirect

The instructing organisation registers and verifies its account, then books Dr Hadinata directly through MEDirect. MEDirect also offers referrer assistance on 1300 001 633.

  3. Confirm conflicts, scope and instructions through MEDirect

Acceptance requires confirmation that there is no current or previous treating relationship and no other conflict, and remains subject to suitability and availability. Provide party details, formal instructions and defined questions through MEDirect, not the preliminary email. No engagement begins until the scope, terms and fees are agreed.

  4. Submit documents through MEDirect

Upload the brief and supporting documents through the MEDirect platform. Do not send matter documents through this public website, the clinical referral pathway or the medicolegal email.

  5. Assessment and report

MEDirect manages appointment communication, case progress, report delivery and invoicing. Dr Hadinata remains responsible for the assessment, independent opinion and report.

Independent medical expert FAQs

What is an independent medical expert?

An independent medical expert is formally engaged by an instructing organisation to provide an objective specialist opinion on defined questions. Depending on the matter, this may involve reviewing relevant material, assessing a person and preparing a report. Dr Hadinata's opinion is independent of the desired outcome of either party. A fee does not purchase a favourable conclusion.

Can Dr Hadinata have treated the person before?

No. For this service, Dr Hadinata accepts an instruction only where he has no current or previous treating relationship with the person to be assessed and no other conflict of interest. A current or former patient cannot use this independent expert pathway.

Is this the same as a treating report?

No. A treating report describes care provided within an existing clinical relationship. An independent expert engagement is separate, has agreed questions and terms, and does not create a treatment relationship. This pathway is not for treating reports, certificates, forms or access to patient records.

Who should use the expert email?

A lawyer, insurer or other instructing organisation may use it only for a brief, non-confidential suitability enquiry about a proposed independent expert engagement in Addiction Medicine. It is not for accepted or current matters, patients, members of the public, general legal or insurance enquiries, informal advice or ordinary report requests. Messages outside this scope are automatically removed before human review.

Does an email create an engagement?

No. A preliminary enquiry does not create an engagement or an obligation to provide an opinion or report. Dr Hadinata must first confirm suitability and availability. MEDirect then manages conflict information, booking, formal instructions, case administration and document submission for any accepted or current matter.
